Sand Key

South-facing reef 8 miles southwest of Key West. Distance from land means more open ocean exposure than typical Keys sites. East through southwest swells hit at full strength, west energy wraps around at moderate force. Northerly swells partially blocked by the Keys chain, but far less effectively than inshore reefs.
