West-southwest-facing beach with WSW swells hitting hardest at moderate-high exposure. West and southwest follow at moderate levels, with south at low-moderate. North through east are well protected. The La Jolla Submarine Canyon starts close offshore and can focus long-period swells unexpectedly, amplifying wave energy and creating cold upwellings.
